Tiger Hill \u864e\u4e18<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tiger Hill (Hu Qiu) is the most famous sight of Suzhou, with old trees and cultural relics everywhere \u2013 the Sword Testing Stone, the Broken Beam Hall, the Thousand Men Rock, the Sword Pond, etc. The millennium-old Yunyan Pagoda, also known as the Leaning Tower, stands on top of the hill and is regarded as the symbol of Suzhou. \u201cIt\u2019s a pity of a lifetime if you have been to Suzhou but missed the Tiger Hill,\u201d said Su Shi, the Song Poet. Tiger Hill is 36 meters high and is set in a 20-hectare park. Near the top of the hill is the burial place of the founding father of Suzhou, King He Lu, who died in 600 B.C. It was said that a white tiger occasionally appeared to guard the tomb; hence the name for the hill.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hanshan Temple \u5bd2\u5c71\u5bfa<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hanshan Temple, literally “Cold Mountain Temple”, is a Buddhist temple and monastery in Suzhou, China. It is located at the town of Fengqiao (lit. Maple Bridge), about 5 kilometres west of the old city of Suzhou. Traditionally, Hanshan Temple is believed to have been founded during the Tianjian era (502\u2013519) of the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang, in the Southern and Northern Dynasties period. The current name of the monastery derives from Hanshan, the legendary monk and poet. Hanshan and his disciple Shide are said to have come to the monastery during the reign of Emperor Taizong of Tang (627\u2013649), where Hanshan became the abbot.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bell<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Two bells are currently used at Hanshan Temple, both dating from the late Qing Dynasty when the temple was last rebuilt. One was forged in China in 1906, and the other was forged in Japan at around the same time. The dedication on the bell was written by Japanese Prime Minister It\u014d Hirobumi. The original Tang Dynasty bell is believed by some (including It\u014d Hirobumi and modern Chinese statesman Kang Youwei) to have been taken to Japan in ancient times. These two factors have roused some nationalistic controversy among Chinese and Koreans (see, for example, this opinion).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A new 108 tonne bell commissioned by Hanshan Temple and built by a foundry in Wuhan was completed recently, and is on its way to Hanshan Temple to replace the hundred years old Japanese built bell. The new bell is 8.5 metres high and 5.2 metres in diameter at its widest.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Famous Poem<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hanshan Temple is famed in East Asia because of the poem “A Night Mooring by Maple Bridge” (\u67ab\u6865\u591c\u6cca), by Tang Dynasty poet, Zhang Ji. The poem describes the melancholy scene of a dejected traveller, moored at night at<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u5bd2\u5c71\u5bfa\u5728\u8607\u5dde\u57ce\u897f\u95b6\u9580\u59165\u516c\u91cc\u5916\u7684\u6953\u6a4b\u93ae\uff0c\u5efa\u65bc\u516d\u671d\u6642\u671f\u7684\u6881\u4ee3\u5929\u76e3\u5e74\u9593\uff08\u897f\u5143502-519\u5e74\uff09\uff0c\u8ddd\u4eca\u5df2\u67091400\u591a\u5e74\u3002\u539f\u540d\u201c\u5999\u5229\u666e\u660e\u5854\u9662\u201d\u3002\u5510\u4ee3\u8c9e\u89c0\u5e74\u9593\uff0c\u50b3\u8aac\u7576\u6642\u7684\u540d\u50e7\u5bd2\u5c71\u548c\u62fe\u5f97\u66fe\u7531\u5929\u53f0\u5c71\u4f86\u6b64\u4f4f\u6301\uff0c\u6539\u540d\u5bd2\u5c71\u5bfa\u30021000\u591a\u5e74\u5167\u5bd2\u5c71\u5bfa\u5148\u5f8c5\u6b21\u906d\u5230\u706b\u6bc0\uff08\u4e00\u8aac\u662f7\u6b21\uff09\uff0c\u6700\u5f8c\u4e00\u6b21\u91cd\u5efa\u662f\u6e05\u4ee3\u5149\u7dd2\u5e74\u9593\u3002\u6b77\u53f2\u4e0a\u5bd2\u5c71\u5bfa\u66fe\u662f\u6211\u570b\u5341\u5927\u540d\u5bfa\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u5bfa\u5167\u53e4\u8de1\u751a\u591a\uff0c\u6709\u5f35\u7e7c\u8a69\u7684\u77f3\u523b\u7891\u6587\uff0c\u5bd2\u5c71\u3001\u62fe\u5f97\u7684\u77f3\u523b\u50cf\uff0c\u6587\u5fb5\u660e\u3001\u5510\u5bc5\u6240\u66f8\u7891\u6587\u6b98\u7247\u7b49\u3002\u5bfa\u5167\u4e3b\u8981\u5efa\u7bc9\u6709\u5927\u96c4\u5bf6\u6bbf\u3001\u5ee1\u6bbf\uff08\u504f\u6bbf\uff09\u3001\u85cf\u7d93\u6a13\u3001\u7891\u5eca\u3001\u9418\u6a13\u3001\u6953\u6c5f\u6a13\u7b49\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n
