Don&#8217;t wriggle! Sit still! Stay put!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But the tiny sea snail sighed and sniffed,<\/p>\n<p>Then cried, &#8220;I&#8217;ve got it! I&#8217;ll hitch a lift!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is the trail<\/p>\n<p>Of the tiny snail,<\/p>\n<p>A silvery trail that looped and curled<\/p>\n<p>And said&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lvyexianzong.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/dscn6407r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9338\" title=\"DSCN6407r\" src=\"http:\/\/lvyexianzong.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/dscn6407r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the whale who came one night<\/p>\n<p>When the tide was high and the stars were bright.<\/p>\n<p>A humpback whale, immensely long,<\/p>\n<p>Who sang to the snail a wonderful song<\/p>\n<p>Of shimmering ice and coral caves<\/p>\n<p>And shooting stars and enormous waves.<\/p>\n<p>And this is the tail<\/p>\n<p>Of the humpback whale.<\/p>\n<p>He held it out of the starlit sea<\/p>\n<p>And said to the snail,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Come sail with me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is the sea,<\/p>\n<p>So wild and free,<\/p>\n<p>That carried the whale<\/p>\n<p>And the snail on his tail<\/p>\n<p>To towering icebergs and far-off lands,<\/p>\n<p>With fiery mountains and golden sands.<\/p>\n<p>These are the waves that arched and crashed,<\/p>\n<p>That foamed and frolicked and sprayed and splashed<\/p>\n<p>The tiny snail<\/p>\n<p>On the tail of the whale.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lvyexianzong.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/dscn6410r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9339\" title=\"DSCN6410r\" src=\"http:\/\/lvyexianzong.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/dscn6410r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These are the caves<\/p>\n<p>Beneath the waves,<\/p>\n<p>Where stripy fish with feathery fins<\/p>\n<p>And sharks with hideous toothy grins<\/p>\n<p>Swam round the whale<\/p>\n<p>And the snail on his tail.<\/p>\n<p>This is the sky<\/p>\n<p>So vast and high,<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes sunny and blue and warm,<\/p>\n<p>sometimes filled with a thunderstorm,<\/p>\n<p>With zigzag lightning<\/p>\n<p>Flashing and frightening<\/p>\n<p>The tiny snail<\/p>\n<p>On the tail of the whale.<\/p>\n<p>And she gazed at the sky, the sea, the land,<\/p>\n<p>The waves and the caves and the golden sand,<\/p>\n<p>She gazed and gazed, amazed by it all,<\/p>\n<p>And she said to the whale, &#8220;I feel so small.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lvyexianzong.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/dscn6412r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9340\" title=\"DSCN6412r\" src=\"http:\/\/lvyexianzong.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/dscn6412r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But then came the day<\/p>\n<p>The whale lost his way&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>These are the speedboats, running a race,<\/p>\n<p>Zigging and zooming all over the place,<\/p>\n<p>Upsetting the whale with their earsplitting roar,<\/p>\n<p>Making him swim too close to the shore.<\/p>\n<p>This is the tide, slipping away&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And this is the whale lying beached in a bay.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Quick! Off the sand! Back to sea!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cried the snail.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I can&#8217;t move on land! I&#8217;m too big!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Moaned the whale.<\/p>\n<p>The snail felt helpless and terrible small.<\/p>\n<p>Then, &#8220;I&#8217;ve got it!&#8221; she cried,<\/p>\n<p>And started to crawl.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I must not fail,&#8221; said the tiny snail.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lvyexianzong.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/dscn6414r.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9341\" title=\"DSCN6414r\" src=\"http:\/\/lvyexianzong.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/dscn6414r.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the bell on the school in the bay,<\/p>\n<p>Ringing the children in from their play.<\/p>\n<p>This is the teacher, holding her chalk,<\/p>\n<p>Telling the class, &#8220;Sit straight! Don&#8217;t\u00a0talk!&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is the board, as black as soot&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And this is the snail with the itchy foot!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A snail! A snail!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The teacher turns pale.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Look!&#8221; say the children.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s leaving a trail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is the trail<\/p>\n<p>Of the tiny snail,<\/p>\n<p>A silvery trail saying&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>These are the children, running from school,<\/p>\n<p>Fetching the firemen, digging a pool,<\/p>\n<p>Squirting and spraying to keep the whale cool.<\/p>\n<p>This is the tide coming into the bay,<\/p>\n<p>And these are the villagers shouting, &#8220;Hooray!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As the whale and the snail travel safely away&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Back to the dock<\/p>\n<p>And the flock on the rock,<\/p>\n<p>Who said, &#8220;How time&#8217;s flown!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And, &#8220;Haven&#8217;t you grown!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And the whale and the snail<\/p>\n<p>Told their wonderful tale<\/p>\n<p>Of shimmering ice and\u00a0coral caves,<\/p>\n<p>And shooting stars and enormous waves,<\/p>\n<p>And of how the snail, so small and frail,<\/p>\n<p>With her looping, curling, silvery trail,<\/p>\n<p>Saved the life of the humpback whale.<\/p>\n<p>Then the humpback whale<\/p>\n<p>Held out his tail<\/p>\n<p>And on crawled snail after snail after snail.<\/p>\n<p>And they sang to the sea as they all set sail<\/p>\n<p>On the tail of the grey-blue humpback whale.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Snail and the whale.
